Huge loaves and tumbling buns. There’s a lot of variety in Europe’s bakeries: in Austria, seemingly alive sourdoughs are studied attentively; in Germany, the kitchen is more of a machine hall. And in France, they do everything entirely differently anyway. Harald Friedl’s film is a journey into the world of bread. Served up in addition to pressing issues related to the future of food production are oven fresh as well as anecdotal offerings.
