Notes on a Tropical Archive deals with Indonesian film history’s first film and its involvement in the post-colonial gaze regime. From an Indonesian fable, and in dialogue between voice-over and images of the landscape, of traditions, and of people, it shapes the attempt to reassembly the history of the country between colonialism and dictatorship, between the finding and silencing of a voice.
