On the eightieth birthday of multiple award-winning director and screenplay writer Michael Haneke the Diagonale is showing two of his works: Funny Games (1997) and Funny Games U.S. (2007). The latter is the U.S. remake of the psychological thriller shot in 1997, in which Haneke filmed the first version scene by scene with different main actors. Both films show how the holiday idyll of a family of three is abruptly destroyed by the appearance of two young men with insidious fantasies of violence.
