The concept of the film “Inherited Asymmetry”came to mind when observing my own features and trying to decide which ones are from which relative of mine. The realisation that not only singular features were inherited but whole asymmetries on my face and body seemed particularly interesting for me. The notion that more complex issues can be passed upon through generation with this visual representation, the asymmetries on my body, is the main idea behind this work. As my body is the representation of the asymmetry, the umbilical cord is the representation of the inherited aspect of it. The work navigates the spectrum of emotions associated with this inheritance—from the initial realizations of the challenges passed down to the anxiety that accompanies this awareness. Ultimately, the narrative unfolds into a journey of acceptance and the art of learning to coexist with these inherited intricacies.
