Gustav Deutsch assembles in so leben wir – botschaften an die familie private family films, col­lected from archives in Austria, the Netherlands, Italy, and England. The compiled films are dynamic visual messages from families who moved to far­ away places, addressed to the relatives back home. A cinematic rag rug woven from the found footage of various decades, which portrays migration (hi)­stories as well as the story of a communication medium’s technological development.
