Two years after the start of the war, this film, full of alternative facts, was meant to justify the invasion of Poland as unavoidable. In 1939, the Volhynia German minority found itself increasingly exposed to attacks by the Polish population. At the forefront is Paula Wessely who plays a dutiful teacher: her school is closed, her fiancé falls victim to the mob, she is mistreated, and, like all Germans in town, crammed into a prison.
