Salzburg documentary filmmaker Ivette Löcker, to whom a Diagonale Position with a comprehensive retrospective is also dedicated, talks to Esther Buss (film critic) about her working methods: Löcker describes relationship realities with great sensitivity and great restraint, as in her latest film, which tells of the love and differences of an Austrian-Gambian couple.

In 2025 the Grand Diagonale Acting Award for services to Austrian film culture goes to Inge Maux. The charismatic character actress knows no vanity, is exuberantly funny and in the next moment deeply touching, sometimes even frightening. In conversation with Florian Widegger (Metro Kinokulturhaus / Filmarchiv Austria), Inge Maux gives an insight into her working worlds and her past and current work, which impressively reflects her versatility from theater to musicals to “late” love films.

Nachspann EXTRA: Masterclass with Athina Rachel Tsangari

Athina Rachel Tsangari talks to Alexandra Seibel (film critic, Kurier) about her films as part of a master class. The Greek director and producer, to whom a comprehensive retrospective is dedicated via the Diagonale Position, deals with social dysfunctions, tics, fears and insecurities of people. However, she always treats her protagonists with affection, understanding and humor. Using excerpts from her works, Tsangari explains her approach to her characters and also explores autofictional traces in them. As an extra treat, there will be a surprise for the Diagonale audience!
